Sunday Linky Party #48 + Goodies

Hope you're all having a good weekend so far. We've got some amazing crafts this weekend so check them out! I especially love the felt flower project below. I'm in the middle of a movie marathon (sort of) so... I'll leave you with this week's features!

Look at how gorgeous this felt flower is! Once you make it, it can be used as a brooch, on top of a headband, on a hat, or for anything else you can think of. This is seriously an amazing tutorial so head over to Hopes and Seams to get started!

How to Predict the Weather

In the spirit of teaching our kids (and ourselves :) how to read the weather in the old-fashioned, non-electronic way, here's an extremely awesome educational poster! And you know what's even better? It's a super big image file so you can save it, print it out, and post it on a bedroom wall! Are you as excited about this as I am?? :) Just click on the image for the original size. Here's also a link to the original source. Enjoy!

Sunday Linky Party #47 + Goodies

Happy Sunday everyone! There were a lot of amazing recipes from the last linky so many of them are featured here today. Going on a diet was not one of my resolutions this year so I don't feel too bad drooling over the pictures, but my apologies if they're distracting for any of you :( Everything is good in moderation, right? Hope you're all having another great weekend, oh, and happy Lunar New Year for those who are celebrating!

Head over to Alderberry Hill for a very useful list of ideas to make your life easier, including the one in the picture of hulling strawberries with a straw. Why didn't I think of that? Learn how to disguise scratches in furniture, clean off crayon marks on computer/tv screens, and much more!

A Homemaker's Value

I came across an article on Yahoo today that addressed something that's been in the back of my mind for awhile now. It's called "How Much Is A Homemaker Worth?" via Investopia.com. I think it's been often noted that homemakers are undervalued in a society (such as ours) where the idea of being a "superwoman" (i.e. someone who does it all) is generally admired, praised, and flaunted. There's also been somewhat of a backlash to the "superwoman" image due to the media's way of categorizing mothers and pitting them against one another in a battle of what is the best way to raise a family. I'm currently not a mother, but I am interested in the value of doing our chores, whether we're men or women. I believe everyone has a reason for choosing to do the things they do and to live the life they're living, in the uncontrolled circumstances that they're in. And let's not forget that one person's happiness might be another's nightmare.

Sunday Linky Party #46 + Goodies

Here's to another Sunday. I'm currently in NY, spending some time with the husband, and flying back tonight. Wish we could hang out longer, but maybe another time. I'm getting pretty excited now that the days are slightly longer again!

Here's to another week of incredibly creative projects and yummy recipes!

If you need a romantic and whimsical frame for your living room, I Can't Stop Crafting has the solution for your fix. I like the book-pages trend right now and lots of people are getting really creative with it :) This frame is really gorgeous!

Bad Baby Names Can Ruin Lives

So we know that celebrities like to get creative with baby names. Some of them sound really cool and some are just downright strange. But did you know that bad baby names can ruin lives? Apparently so!

Humpty Dumpty Art Print by frighten

A study published in Social Psychological and Personality Science found that, out of nearly 12,000 adult participants, having a bad first name can not only ruin your self-esteem, but make you lonelier and dumber... that's pretty harsh. Not only that, but in various experiments testing name desirability on an European dating website, eDarling, the majority of (a different set of) 12,000 participants responded that they would rather remain single than enter a relationship with someone whose name they dislike.

Sunday Linky Party #45 + Goodies

Sorry today's post was a little late. I generally try to finish ahead of time and schedule these posts to publish at midnight, but the Husband left for New York tonight so I spent the weekend hanging out with him and postponing my Sunday Linky duties :) Then, I underestimated the amount of time I had left for this post so therefore it's late! What a way to start the New Year. The holidays came so fast and finished even faster... I'm not ready to start another whole year yet! Hope you're starting off the year more smoothly than I am.

This origami flower ornament is intriguingly gorgeous. I love that Moments with the Montano's used old book pages because it makes it look that much more sophisticated :) Of course, I always feel really bad tearing pages out of books, so I'll probably look for a terribly written one with a tiny reader base to rip apart.

11 Obvious Findings of 2011

One of our favorite things to do at the beginning of the year is to look back at highlights from the previous year. That's what The Body Odd did with this article, which I'm sharing/summarizing here. It's a list of obvious things we already know, except with scientific findings to back them up! Sometimes reality does follow logical reasoning :)

Unsafe sex is more likely after drinking: Who knew? Canadian researchers found that for 0.1 milligram-per-milliliter increase in participants' blood alcohol levels, the likelihood of having unprotected sex increased by 5%.

Happy New Year!! I'm taking a little break (not making a linky feature on New Year's Eve) so I'm extending last week's linky into this week as well :) Posts from this week and last week shall be featured next Sunday. Hope you had a great night last night!
